Nine-time congressman, military general, and 20th President of the United States, Garfield was a civil service reformer and civil rights leader. Garfield wanted a universal education system funded by the federal government, partly to empower African Americans, and he appointed several former slaves, including Frederick Douglass, to prominent government positions.

Peter Donahue (James Garfield) was born and raised in Lowell MA, and he is currently a senior acting major in the School of Music, Theatre & Dance.
