Affirmative Action in Higher Education Teach-Out

Potential Impact on Higher Education / Lesson 1 of 12

4 minutes

As we’ve learned so far in this Teach-Out, institutions have been navigating a shifting ground of affirmative action since the Bakke ruling in 1978. However, the most recent ruling in the Students for Fair Admissions (SFFA) case will likely alter the landscape of higher education – most significantly in regards to campus climate and diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) work, as well as mandated changes to admissions practices and corresponding enrollment rates.

In this lesson, we explore potential impacts the recent U.S. Supreme Court ruling may have. In the following videos, Kyra Shahid, Director of the Trotter Multicultural Center at the University of Michigan, joins us to discuss the need for campus DEI efforts.
