Affirmative Action in Higher Education Teach-Out

Call to Action / Lesson 8 of 9

Live Event - Building an Inclusive Community: Lessons for a Post-Affirmative Action Era

60 minutes

As a companion to the Teach-Out, we hosted a live event on September 25, 1 PM, highlighting the experiences of experts in diversity, equity, inclusion, and justice (DEIJ) initiatives and college admissions at the University of Michigan, the lessons they’ve learned along the way, and what others can do to continue fostering diverse and inclusive communities in light of the recent Supreme Court ruling. Following their stories, the audience was able to ask the panelists questions. We welcomed back our Teach-Out contributors:

  • Kyra Shahid, PhD, is the Director of the Trotter Multicultural Center and is an innovative leader and educator in the field of Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (JEDI). She has established groundbreaking social change and healing initiatives in response to racial trauma in higher education and has a wealth of knowledge regarding strategic planning, supporting historically disenfranchised groups, and managing culturally restorative projects.
  • Blaire Moody Rideout, PhD, is the Director of Undergraduate Admissions at the Ross School of Business. She is committed to an admissions philosophy that provides access to underrepresented and under-resourced populations, and has a deep knowledge of holistic admissions and enrollment management.

Whether you are just beginning your DEIJ work or have been involved for some time, this event will offer strategies to stay motivated and engaged in building equitable opportunities for all.
