2023 Supreme Court Ruling & Current Landscape

7 minutes

With an understanding of the history of affirmative action in U.S. higher education, let’s dive into the recent Supreme Court ruling. Their ruling involves two court cases, both filed by Students for Fair Admissions (SFFA), a nonprofit legal advocacy organization. In 2013, SFFA filed two suits - one against Harvard University and one against the University of North Carolina.

In the following videos, we first hear again from Maya, who takes us through these cases and the recent Supreme Court ruling. Then, Susan P. Sturm, George M Jaffin Professor of Law & Social Responsibility at the Columbia Law School, will help us understand why we should care about this ruling.
