UFOs: Scanning the Skies Teach-Out

UFO Sightings and Analyses / Lesson 5 of 5

Analyzing UFO Videos - Mick West

6 minutes

The internet is rife with cell phone videos capturing strange sights. Almost all people who investigate UFOs, however, would agree that many of these can be explained easily as a regular object or video artifact.

Before hearing from video analysis expert Mick West, watch this short segment Explained: Wingless Tic-Tac UFOs Moving Erratically Behind Trees that demonstrates two common and basic observations: videos of "Tic-Tac" UFOs are usually (but not always) planes, and things moving oddly behind trees is usually the result of camera motion.

In the next video, Mike West, a noted science communicator, conspiracy analyst, and skeptical investigator, walks through the process of analyzing a video. Mick is the creator of Metabunk.org, which is dedicated to “the art and pastime of honest, polite, scientific investigating and debunking.” He outlines some best practices, which you will practice using in the next activity.
