Roe v. Wade Teach-Out
Description
On June 24, 2022, the U.S. Supreme Court issued a landmark decision that overturned Roe v. Wade, the seminal ruling that had, for nearly half a century, upheld the constitutional right to abortion within the United States. This reversal represents a pivotal moment in the nation's ongoing debate over reproductive rights and has profound implications across multiple facets of American life.
This Teach-Out will look at the history of reproductive rights in the United States and the ramifications of the ruling – legally, medically, politically, and more. It will also touch on the unprecedented leak of the draft opinion earlier in 2022. The goal of the Teach-Out is to bring diverse perspectives of both experts and learners together for rich and thoughtful discourse.
Aimed at fostering an environment of informed discussion, this Teach-Out invites a spectrum of views and aims to equip participants with a deeper understanding of the complex dimensions of reproductive rights. By bringing together the diverse perspectives of legal experts, healthcare professionals, scholars of ethics and theology, advocates, policymakers, and the personal stories of learners, we will engage in a multidisciplinary conversation essential for comprehending the path forward in a post-Roe v. Wade America.
This Teach-Out will answer:
- Why was Roe v. Wade important and what did it mean for people's rights over the past 49 years?
- What changes can we expect in laws and policies about abortion because of the Supreme Court's decision?
- How will this ruling affect healthcare and the options available to women?
- What does this big change mean for society and politics going forward?
