Black Lives Matter, or BLM, has emerged as a globally recognized movement promoting the freedom of Black people around the world. It began in response to the murder of 17 year old Trayvon Martin by Neighborhood watch captain George Zimmerman in 2012. In the past eight years, Black Lives Matter has built awareness and action against police brutality and systemic racism in the United States and become a rallying cry for the thousands of protestors mobilizing in 2020.
