20 minutes

Jenifer is a staff member at Taller Salud, where María and Samuel do volunteer work.

Jenifer De Jesús is a staff member at Taller Salud, where María Villegas Pizarro and Samuel Osorio Cirino volunteer. Taller Salud is one of Puerto Rico’s most recognized and important non-profit organizations. It is located in an underprivileged area in the town of Loíza, a community with a high percentage of Afro-Puerto Ricans. Through a focus on girls and women, Taller Salud strives to promote a holistic approach to health and well-being, as well as to empower women to be active members of their communities. Similar to many small non-profits on the island, Taller Salud had to expand beyond its original mission in order to attend to the severe needs of the community--such as lack of housing--in the wake of Hurricane María.
