Feminism: From Origins to Evolution Teach-Out

Intersectional Feminism / Lesson 1 of 4

Intersectional Feminism

11 minutes

Intersectionality was coined by law professor Kimberlé Crenshaw to explain how different forms of inequality - such as race and gender - compound one another to change or worsen an individual's experience of inequality.

Recognizing the impact of the ways the identities intersect in our daily lives is essential to the fight to equality. Before moving onto the following videos on intersectional issues in feminism we encourage you to read "Intersectional feminism: what it means and why it matters right now" from UN Women and watch this conversation with Kimberlé Crenshaw on 'Intersectional Feminism.'. Below, check out Professor LaKisha Simmons take on feminism in Black women's communities.
