CRISPR Gene Editing Teach-Out

Applications of CRISPR / Lesson 2 of 8

Gene Editing for Conservation - Ben Novak

3 minutes

In the next few videos, you will hear about several applications of CRISPR technology.

Ben Novak is a lead scientist and program manager at Revive & Restore, a non-profit that uses genetic engineering for conservation projects. In his work, he focuses specifically on biotechnology for bird conservation. In this video, Ben explores how gene editing is uniquely suited to support conservation efforts, and how CRISPR has made that work more feasible going forward.

In the next videos, Ben discusses how we can use editing to fight against the disease. He also discusses how we may be able to humanely eliminate invasive species by rendering them unable to reproduce. Finally, Ben speaks to efforts to bring animals back from extinction using gene editing.
