Understanding the Executive Order: An Interview with Margo Schlanger
14 minutes
Margo Schlanger is the Wade H. and Dores M. McCree Collegiate Professor of Law at the University of Michigan Law School, and a leading authority on civil rights issues and civil and criminal detention. She also founded and heads the Civil Rights Litigation Clearinghouse. In 2010 and 2011, Professor Schlanger served as the presidentially appointed Officer for Civil Rights and Civil Liberties at the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) where she was the secretary's lead adviser on civil rights and civil liberties issues. This situation, particularly with the recent development of a new Executive Order signed by President Trump, has elevated several legal questions. Margo explores some of the implications for this order in the next segment.
