Lora Lempert, Ph.D, Professor Emerita of Sociology in the College of Arts, Sciences, and Letters, University of Michigan-Dearborn, and assistant research scientist in the Institute for Research on Women & Gender, Office of the Vice President for Research, University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, discusses her educational work with incarcerated individuals, particularly women, including her work with the Inside Out prison exchange program, which brings university students into prison classrooms to learn together with incarcerated individuals. Dr. Lempert also discusses gender differences in sentencing, race relations, religion, suicide, ethics, and building and maintaining community in prisons.
