Law, Policy, and Advocacy (Seeking Justice; Conversations on Incarceration)

Mary King and Kristin Staley discuss changes that occurred to zero tolerance laws regarding juveniles in school settings in 2016. They then explain the impact of police discretion on situations involving juveniles, and the importance of involving other professionals, such as mental health specialists and social workers. They also explain the ways in which juveniles can be tried as adults, and the experiences of juveniles tried as adults who later end up in adult prisons. Finally, they explain restorative justice, and the benefits it offers as they relate to incarcerated juveniles.
