Motoki Taniguchi and Danielle Motley discuss their work in a reentry project that serves juveniles released after having been sentenced to life in prison. They explain the disproportionate representation of minority juvenile lifers, particularly African-Americans. They also discuss the unique challenges facing individuals reentering society after having served most of their lives in prison. Various forms of support and mentorship intended to support returning individuals are also described, such as employment and housing services. Efforts to utilize restorative justice practices are explained, as well as communication goals related to helping society better understand individuals reentering society after spending most of their lives in prison.
