I have experience in programming (other than python) in an engineering field for almost 10 years and I was interested in Python (especially in Data Science). I signed up for Applied Data Science with Python (Cursera specialisation) and simultaneously for Python for Everybody. First, the course you mentioned is course #1 out of 5 in that specialisation. The short answer is: this specialisation is for complete beginners who have no prior programming experience and perhaps who are interested in programming from other non-engineering or science fields. So, Prof. Charles elaborates on every details. However, it does not go very far. You can grab these materials from on-line tutorials, Data Camp etc. for free unless you like to lay back and somebody explains everything for you (like this course). Charles is a very good teacher though. I almost had to skip most parts of videos because of simplicity. The other specialisation Applied Data Science in Python is designed for intermediates. A 5 min video took me 15 min to document and digest all the materials. You would find it a very tough path to learn Python and Data Science if you are a “beginner”. And the last, none of these specializations are to teach you data science. They are focusing on either how Python is applied in Data Analytics (the first specialization) or how it can be used in Data Science and Machine Learning techniques (the second specialization). You should take perhaps Data Science specialization in Coursera (by R) for that purpose.
